Pilates through your pregnancy

It has long been proven that gentle exercise during pregnancy can improve the mother's health along with her unborn child's.

The benefits of Pilates are clear - working the core muscles to help develop pelvic floor strength along with the postural benefits that Pilates brings can certainly assist you in ensuring a healthy pregnancy, preparing you as your body changes shape.

An overall good level of fitness can also help towards an efficient labour while developing your practise through to the post-natal stage will help you get back in shape as your body recovers from the previous 9 months! Not to mention the feeling of relaxation and focus on breathing - all in all, along with regular walking, I would personally say it is the perfect exercise for your pregnancy!

My pre-natal courses are also run in 8 week blocks and should begin in your second trimester and with the approval of your midwife or consultant. If you have been practising Pilates prior to pregnancy you should be able to continue from conception through to delivery, but once again, please take advice from your medical professional.

The courses are bookable in advance and once you reach 36 weeks, if you still feel up to it, you can attend on a drop-in basis until the baby arrives!

Please bring with you a pillow or cushion, a gym ball if you have one and a towel and bottle of water for your comfort!
